DJing 101 (noon - 1:30)

Whether you’re new DJing, about to start, or looking for new insight on the fundamentals, we’ll have something for you! We’ll give an overview of DJing for dancers including where to find music, how to read the floor, hardware and software recommendations, and more!

What is Blues? (1:45 - 3:15)

This is a question that so many DJs and dancers have asked, but we think is a misnomer. The real question this class will seek to answer: ‘what is the music that we DJ for dancers in this Blues community?’. Through a bit of analysis and concrete examples, we’ll reach a better understanding.

Embracing Variety (3:30 - 5pm)

Blues is a deep and rich music that includes a wide range of rhythms, moods, subgenres, and more. We’ll explore these differences, then consider the strategies of moving between them to increase the excitement of our own sets.

Sunday dance classes

A la carte class admission available at the door, $18/class

Rhythmic Interplay (noon - 1:30)

This class explores rhythm between partners. We’ll play with moments of matching and diverging, and then make things a little trickier with more specific rhythmic ideas. Level: advanced-beginner and above

Be the Band (1:45 - 3:15)

Dancing is a physical expression of the music, and that can play out in a few different ways. In this class, we’ll learn ways we can embody the attitudes, textures, and rhythms of different instruments, to help us connect deeply to the music and participate in the song as dancers. Level: advanced-beginner and above

Adaptive Connection (3:30 - 5pm)

When we dance with a partner, sometimes we have similar ideas of what to do and sometimes our ideas are very different. In this class, we’ll explore the different choices we (as leaders and followers) make that let us express ourselves and stay connected, while adapting to partner ideas. Find the ability to stay connected and expressive, even if you and your partner had very different ideas. Level: intermediate and above
