Join us at Durham’s great local blues bar for a workshop with the wonderful and amazing Ruth Evelyn!

TIME: 12pm-4:30pm
LOCATION: The Blue Note Grill (Durham)
ADMISSION: $40 (must pre-register, only 30 slots available, no sales at the door)

OVERVIEW: Ruth Evelyn will teach 3 blues dance classes starting promptly at noon and end around 4:30 pm.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

• Blues Building Blocks:
  Deepen your knowledge of the elements that make up blues dancing, across the various idioms. We’ll move through more ways to move more freely and creatively in your own body, move with confidence and awareness of grounding, pulse, and ways of connection to a partner.

• Chicago Triple:
  Triple step blues is one of the most versatile styles for dancing to bar music, and tons of fun. We’ll cover technique for following and leading, plus build fun vocabulary.

• Jazz Blues:
  When the jazz gets slow, ballroomin’ blues styles are a great choice. Great connection, turns, traveling, and some fabulous shapes make this dynamic class tons of fun.

NOTES ABOUT THE VENUE:
This workshop will be taking place in a public setting/restaurant, not a dance studio. The floor is smooth concrete, so plan accordingly. People will be eating in the restaurant/bar while the workshop is happening. For further support of our local community, we highly encourage attendees to consider eating at The Blue Note Grill for either lunch or dinner. The have excellent food and drinks. Dancers will have the temperature controlled patio space available for socializing and eating after the workshop concludes.

AFTER THE WORKSHOP:
We are still working on the details for this. There will be live blues music after the workshop. It’s a great opportunity to practice what you have learned during the day. If you want to stay for the live music, you will need to pay the cover change. We expect it to be around $10. Your workshop registration does not cover this fee. If you plan to eat dinner at The Blue Note Grill, you will likely need to pay this cover charge at the door for the evening music before ordering and being seated.
